Hidden in the limestone mountains just 30 kilometers northwest of Antalya, Karain Cave (Karain Mağarası) is one of the most important prehistoric sites in Turkey. With a history dating back more than 500,000 years, it is not only a natural wonder but also a window into human evolution and ancient life.

Karain Cave which has been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List thanks to its place in history of humanity is among the most attractive places not only in Antalya but in Turkey.

The History of Karain Cave
Karain Cave is the largest prehistoric cave in Turkey and one of the few places where evidence of human life spans the Lower, Middle, and Upper Paleolithic periods. Excavations have uncovered stone tools, animal bones, and even early human fossils, making the cave an invaluable archaeological site.

Artifacts from the cave are displayed both on-site and at the Antalya Archaeological Museum, giving visitors the chance to connect with Turkey’s deep past.
